Gunning For Allie – “Alive”

Hailing from Brisbane and consisting of theatre actor Joshua Mulheran and Isla Vera frontman James Waters, this Australian synth-pop duo grew up together and played in a high school band. With Josh creating the lyrics and James the melodies, they’ve forged an 80s-inspired synth sound. Inspired by Death Cab For Cutie, Chrvrches and The 1975, they released their debut single “Braille” in 2017.

Lyrically referencing the painful loss of Josh’s best friend Courtney, their new single merges a vibrant and nostalgic electronic soundscape with personal, emotive words. Instantly gripping with a retro 80s synth run and a driving beat, they added a sonic sizzle and thunderous drums. And with passionate vocals reminding the listener to stay strong and live life, this voltaic tune is an inspiring groove.

Alex McArtor – “Endless Summer”

Raised in Austin and now Los Angeles-based, this rising singer and songwriter spent her downtime from school writing poetry, playing guitar and listening to artists like Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and Depeche Mode. Her main lyrical influence however are a wide-ranging scope of films, such as Trainspotting, Velvet Goldmine and The Phantom Of The Opera. She debuted with her EP “Spoken Word” in 2019.

Creating an idyllic fantasy world where romance and escapism go hand in hand and love never ends, her new single blends pure musical nectar with an enchanting story. Slightly reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, she conjures an alluring sound with vivid guitars, driving beat and subtle keys painting an esoteric sonic picture, it’s her spell-binding vocals that make this gem sound extraordinary.
