In The Spotlight

Ben Hazlewood – “Always There”

Born near Wellington and now based in Sydney, this New Zealand artist spent his life immersed in music. His father sang in multiple bands and his mother owned a dance studio. At 14 he wrote his first original song. Continuing to hone his authentic sound, he won MTV’s The Freshman music video competition. Inspired by David Bowie, Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks, he debuted with “Wanted” in 2015.

Capturing the devastating feelings that sprout from an one-sided love, his new single shows off his impressive, heartfelt songwriting artistry. Making use of the sheer passion found in classic soul, he wraps his emotive lyrics in a heart-wrenching melody. With a warm percussion, sweltering keys, sultry horns and his authentic, soul-infused vocals, he pays homage to the resilience of love.
