In The Spotlight

White Denim – “Second Dimension”

Formed around frontman and guitarist James Petralli in 2006, this L.A.-based band started playing post punk music and over the years blended shades of soul, jazz and southern-rock into their sound. They have played a plethora of festivals like SXSW and Glastonbury, as well as opening for Wilco in 2012. They also had their song “Hah Ha Ha Ha (Yeah)” used in the trailer for the Nintendo Switch. Inspired by Nick Lowe and Joe Jackson, they released their debut “Let’s Talk About It” in 2007.

With lyrics about knowing oneself well enough to be able to look within yourself and identify what needs to change, their new single ventures into 70s-styled yacht-rock. Taken from their upcoming album “12”, expected on December 6th, there’s a distinct summery calmness radiating from the melody. With a mellow rhythm, jaunty synth and breezy guitars leading to a sprightly bridge, it’s the soul-infused vocals and whimsical keys that fill this vintage-dipped groove full of charm.
