In The Spotlight

Will Pope – “Cold Comfort”

Hailing from Rotherham and now based in London, this British singer and songwriter honed his craft living, studying and performing in the vibrant Chinese city of Beijing. After returning to the UK in 2020 he began releasing original material of a vintage/contemporary blend of folk-pop music. Since then he’s toured nationwide and performed at venues such as St. Pancras Old Church with Alex Francis. Inspired by Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake and Bon Iver, he debuted with “Stormy Seas” in 2021.

Encapsulating the struggle and fatigue caused by a burnout, his new single is driven by a defiance not to give in to it and to keep moving forward. Starting in a more traditional folk style with a mellow bass and soft guitar, he soon adds a bit more volume to the rich production. Bobbing along on the melodic waves, he incorporates a hint of country with twangy slide guitars and cheeky banjo plucks. And with an honest authenticity to his vocals, this intricate tune is full of tender reflection.
