Sahara Beck – “Here We Go Again”

This Australian singer and songwriter from Brisbane started working on developing her career in music when she was a mere 11 years old . A year later she had written her first song, which was followed by her debut album “Volume One” at 14. Honing her unique, art-pop sound and electrifying, alluring  voice, she played festivals like The Falls and Bluefest and is a Queensland Music Award winner.

The tranquil choral harmony at the start of her latest single is a mere tease, as this song soon turns out to have quite a kick. A pulsating rhythm, which you can feel resonating in your stomach, punchy piano and slick strings form an imposing soundscape, while her raw vocal acrobatics, which still maintain a seductive quality, add a rugged punchiness to this pounding piece of pop power.

Goodfoot – “The One”

London-based duo Huw Foster and Danny Sharples are on a mission to create intelligent pop, heavy grooves and good vibes. Fronted by Danny on lead vocals, and Huw on electric & synth bass, their extravagant funk/soul live act consists of 9 members of authentic horns, rhythm section and backing vocals. Influenced by Daft Punk, Chic and Prince, they released their debut EP “New Shoes” in 2017.

Their exhilarating new single definitely puts the fun in funky. Even though the song is driven by soaring contemporary synths, it’s the scrumptious layer of retro grooves which truly elevates this song. Reminiscent of Earth, Wind & Fire, the full-bodied brass is thrillingly ear-popping and the addition of the sleek 70s strings and disco-dipped vocals makes this a lively funkalicious party.

Nona – “It’s Alright”

The origin of this Dutch songbird’s love of music can be found in her ancestral home, where she was constantly surrounded by a wide range of musical influences. Although being in her early 20s, she is blessed with a raw, passionate and soulful vocal proficiency, which usually develops with age. She’s played live as much as she could, from busking to festivals, while she worked on her debut.

In 2003 Amy Winehouse changed the music scene forever with her vintage soul sound and now Nona adds her own heartwarming zeal and starts that process all over again. Her latest single gives retro-soul a touch of blues with a warm beat and electro-guitars, ultimately bursting out in a spirited chorus, all capped by her intense soul-soaked voice which makes this song sound way more than alright.

Jack Rose – “Birthday Cake”

With a musicality way beyond his teenage years, this multi-talented British singer, songwriter and actor has been entertaining enthusiastic crowds most of his life. Spawning a sound of old-school funk with a modern twist, he dropped his debut single “Lost” in 2015. Playing covers and orginal material, he supported Faith Evans on her UK Tour and is currently also a radio-presenter for HitMix UK.

Driven by a bouncy funkalicious beat, his latest single is filled with delicious old-school vibes. Blending retro Pop, Funk and Disco tones with invigorating, contemporary vocals, he creates a mature sound reminiscent of Bruno Mars and Jamiroquai, while remaining phenomenally fresh. With sparkling synths and shimmering strings, this succulent slice of Nu-Funk is the icing on the groovy cake.

Fox & Bones – “Little Animal”

Portland, OR duo Sarah Vitort and Scott Gilmore write their Folk-Pop music from the perspective of two fictional characters: Fox, a down-and-out ‘it’ girl and Bones, a rootless bad boy with a heart of gold. They met in 2016 and released their debut EP the same year. Using their music as a canvas to paint a picture of their nomadic life experiences, they also founded Portland’s Folk Festival.

The second taster of their upcoming album “Better Land”, to be released on October 19th, is an Indie-Folk song with cheery Pop sensibilities and has a jolly, lighthearted vibe. An upbeat rhythm from both drums and tambourines leads to a jovial burst of musical spice from sprightly strings and luminous horns. Showing off their exquisite storytelling skills, this exuberant tune radiates positivity.
