In The Spotlight

Daley – “Lavender”

Hailing from Manchester, this British singer and songwriter grew up surrounded by the indie-rock-heavy music scene of his home town. Noticing the distinct lack of a soul scene, he developed his own future throwback soul sound in his bedroom. Now based in London, he has worked with many major artists from Stevie Wonder to Jessie J and played festivals like SXSW and Essence Festival. Inspired by Chaka Khan, Prince and George Michael, he released his debut “Smoking Gun” in 2011.

Singing about a romantic chemistry between two lovers so intense that it’s all consuming, his new single explores the freedom to shake inhibitions and be totally vulnerable with a partner. With an intricate blend of smooth classic soul with a contemporary R&B edge, this song is a dreamy amalgam. With orchestral strings, bounding beat and jazz-infused guitar fusing together in a slow-burning soundscape, it’s his silky vocals that complete this comforting, emotional sonic sanctuary.
