Merchant – “Don’t Feel Like Dancing”

After finishing music school Nate Merchant moved from Oregon to Los Angeles to truly work on honing his craft. He started working with Grammy-winning songwriter Sam Martin and co-produced his debut album. Continuing to write and produce for others, he started the band Papa Ya and opened for acts like MAX and ROZES. He debuted his solo sound on “Dead Days & Gatorade” earlier this year.

Celebrating the shimmering synthpop-rock of the neon decade, his new single captures an 80s playful bounce. Born out of the collaboration with bassist John Taylor of Duran Duran fame, the melody bursts onto your eardrums with a vigorous tempo and an audible vintage vivacity. Blending the soaring retro fire with an infectious fresh production, this is a tune you just can’t help but dance to.

Sarah Mae Chilton – “Caving In”

Born in Winston-Salem, this bubbly singer and songwriter started her own rock band in high school. She went on to get a degree in music from UNC Chapel Hill. Classically trained in piano, vocal performance and guitar, she moved to Nashville to hone her craft and performed at Tootsies Orchid Lounge. Likened to voices like Amy Winehouse and Regina Spektor, she released her debut “Broke” in 2020.

Enriching velveteen pop with touches of country and sumptuous jazz, her new single is a smooth groove filled with sophisticated flair. Taken from her album “Southern Glitter Pop”, she narrates the story of finding romance when you think you’ll never find love, with her elegant vocals. And with mild keys, mellow rhythm and luxuriant trumpet, this delicate jam breathes tones of pure comfort.

Port Cities – “Parachute”

Hailing from Halifax, this Canadian duo consisting of Dylan Guthro and Carleton Stone has been making music since 2011, when they met at Gorgie Sampson Song Camp. Despite all having solo careers, they formed the band as a trio with Breagh MacKinnon in 2015 and debuted with “On The Nights You Stay Home” in 2017. After Breagh left in 2019, they continued their rich folk-rock sound together.

Having created the song remotely during the Covid pandemic in 2020, their new single breathes a feel-good vibe. They enveloped their positive message that life is unpredictable, so that it’s better to do the things you love, in neon-lit 80s synth-pop hues, while still incorporating tones of retro-touched folk-rock. With a bouncy beat and joyful exuberance, this is an upbeat free fall of sonic fun.

Alanna Royale – “Fall In Love Again”

Born in New Zealand, but now Nashville-based, Alanna Quinn-Broadus is the frontwoman of this classic-minded R&B/soul band. She attended Berklee College Of Music in Boston, where she first cut her teeth on the punk scene. Inspired by a multitude of sounds, from Whitney Houston to Billie Holiday and compared to classic Motown soul legends, they debuted with the 2013 EP “Bless Her Heart”.

Filled with a buttery-smooth sway and a rich, luxurious warmth, their new single highlights the intimacy that classic soul can bring. With a crisp guitar and velveteen strings setting the romantic scene, soon this silken jewel finds its rhythmic foot marrying all those elements together. And with her enchanting vocals singing about rekindling love, you will keep falling in love with this gem.

Isla Noon – “Talk About Us”

Based in Auckland, this New Zealand singer & songwriter wanted to be a musician since she was young. As a child she began writing little songs and later picked up a guitar to play them. She studied for a Bachelor of Music at the University of Auckland and draws inspiration from artists ranging from Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen to Robyn and Taylor Swift. She debuted with “Summer In August” in 2020.

Furthering her mighty fusion of retro elements such as 60s/70s folk, 70s/80s disco and a genre-spanning dose of indie-pop, her second single has an infectious sparkle. From the smoothness of the verses to the upbeat radiance of the chorus, this track uses scintillating synths and a buoyant beat to wrap her lustrous vocals in sonic sunlight and makes this a groove you will be talking about.

Danny Mellin – “His Favourite Sweatshirt”

Hailing from Oxford, this British singer and songwriter began writing songs at a young age, releasing his debut “Without You” at only 14 years young. Influenced by artists like The Beatles, Oasis and Sam Fender, he’s forged an unique indie-rock sound. He’s also a regular festival performer, opened for Little Brother Eli, The White Lakes and Jake Clemons and was featured on BBC Introducing.

Embraced by electrifying guitars and a vibrant beat from the start, his new single is an ingenious meld of 90s Britpop and modern indie-rock. Adding a vigorous pace to this upbeat tune, he sings about heartbreak and seeing the one you love with another guy.
