Mikki Zip – “Somethin’ To Write About”

Born in Syracuse, NY, this passionate singer and songwriter grew up with music being a big part of her life. She watched her songwriter uncle TJ Sacco perform around New York since she was little. After getting a guitar aged 10 and with a love for country music, she started writing her own songs. Now based in Nashville, she’s performed all over Music City, honing her sound. Raised on Garth Brooks, Gary Allen and Reba McEntire, she released her debut single “Poor Mama” in 2022.

Narrating the profound feeling of whether a budding romance is just fleeting or indeed the real thing, her new single is a true emotional rollercoaster. Taken from her upcoming debut EP, expected in October, the song takes elements of southern rock and blends it with country soul and a smidgen of blues. Driven by a propulsive beat and howling electric guitars, this is a high-energy sonic experience. And with her attitude-filled vocals, this vivid jam is overflowing with raw emotion.

Citizen Papes – “Unbelievable”

Born as JP O’Grady, this Scottish singer and songwriter was raised in Scotland, but moved to Texas with his American mother at the age of 16, where he worked in a country music studio under the wing of the late Dusty Hill of ZZ Top fame. Upon returning he started this musical project in his bedroom in Glasgow during the pandemic. He began uploading covers of Counting Crows and Taylor Swift to TikTok. Inspired by Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend, he debuted with “For You” in 2024.

Wondering what went wrong in a lost relationship, his new single ponders the past while realising that he’s actually fine in the present. Carrying his reflective lyrics is a delectably sweet melody, which is filled with retro vibes and a soulful warmth. With a mellow rhythm, gentle piano and a dulcet saxophone creating a smooth, velvety soundscape, the song is filled with renewed positivity. And with his heartfelt vocals, this is an exquisite example of an ear-tickling tune.
