Born in Hong Kong and raised in Mississauga, this Canadian singer-songwriter moved to Canada at 4 years old. He grew up in a traditional Asian household and, under parental pressure, took classical piano lessons. Discovering the electric guitar as a teen sparked a passion and he began writing songs. Since then he’s performed at events across the world like Glastonbury and the Jade Music Festival. Inspired by Bahamas, John Mayer and Tim Buckley, he debuted with his self-titled EP in 2015.
Inspired by his real-life experience where he almost drowned while free diving in Australia, his new single’s lyrics cover accepting life’s changes and finding freedom in a lack of control. Taken from his upcoming album “100 Cities”, expected on November 6th, it blends a western folk-rock foundation of acoustic guitars and an indie-pop rhythm with traditional Chinese elements, like the Zhongruan and the Guzheng. And with a gentle rasp in his warm vocals, this is a lush tune.
