Dean Mitchell – “Pieces”

Grown up in the Bay Area and now Los Angeles-based, this rising singer and songwriter is a musical chameleon. With a style influenced by funk and R&B of the 70s and 80s, 90s grunge and 00s pop, she feels most at home in a genre-less soundscape. Drawing inspiration from artists like Alanis Morrisette, Green Day and Christina Aguilera, she released her debut single “Hold Me Down” earlier this year.

Focusing on the anxieties that seem to be synonymous with being twenty-something, her new single reminds others that they are not alone. Enveloping the wistful lyrics in uplifting 90s-influenced pop-rock vibes, the song captures the attention from the very first bass pluck. Edgy guitars, potent beat and her flirtatious vocals turn these infectious 2 minutes into something extraordinary.

Maja – “Not Picking Up”

Born in Serbia as Maja Puseljic, this Australian-based singer and songwriter completed her study of music composition and piano at the University of Queensland in 2014. Two years later she was touring the East Coast with her band. Inspired by Otis Redding, Laura Marling and Fiona Apple, she’s created a nostalgic sound, echoing soul, blues and folk. She debuted with “The Dreamer” in 2016.

Written about a female friend who was neglecting their friendship, her new single adds a retro-pop sound to her auditory bow. Painting a neon colored canvas with a sonic 80s palette, it’s the passionate rhythm, mellow synths and flavorful guitars that capture a melancholy of yesteryear. And with her captivating vocals reaching into your heart, this luscious jam is relatable, heartfelt and mesmerizing.
