The Free Label – “Shine”

Formed in 2017 in Toronto, this Canadian six-piece party band shares a love for 80s disco and 90s R&B. Consisting of Josh Daniel, Malik Mungo, Cole Mendez, Jacob Thompson, Mathew Fantini and Jason Martin, they’re known for their wild, interactive live shows. They’ve played festivals like NXNE, SXSW and Canadian Music Week and toured all over the world. They released their debut “All Night” in 2018.

Inspired by Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Shining Star”, their new single brews an invigorating blend of disco, funk and R&B. Conveying a positive message about self-empowerment, the track starts with some smooth brass, before the funkiness takes over. With a bouncy beat, warm bass line and Braxton Cook’s deliciously jazzy sax solo, this silky, feel-good groove makes their sonic artistry truly shine.

Puma June – “Ride Or Die”

Born as Shanti Abbott, this Toronto-based Canadian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has always been getting involved with musical projects. She created a folk duo with her sister Vale and was part of local bands, as well as violinist for the Huronia Symphony Orchestra. Inspired by Aretha Franklin, Charlotte Day Wilson and Lana Del Rey, she released her debut single “Lost Years” in 2020.

Dedicated to her close relationship with her sister, who’s always been there for her through all of life’s ups and downs, her new single has a lighthearted, upbeat vibe. With a relaxed percussion, seductive violins and cheery guitars, she blends classic soul and alluring jazz with crisp funky horns. And with her nostalgic and hypnotic vocals, this sumptuous groove is filled with melancholy and love.
