Stephen Day – “You Wouldn’t Know”

Born into a musical household, this Nashville-based singer-songwriter spent his childhood surrounded by choir singers and instruments in his dad’s church. Yet it wasn’t until he was 12 that he picked up a guitar himself and taught himself to play. He moved to Nashville at 18 to study at Belmont University. He’s played festivals like Shaky Knees and venues like The Troubadour. Inspired by Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra, he debuted with “Undergrad Romance And The Moses In Me” in 2018.

Exploring the emotional clash between pride and heartbreak following a breakup, his new single is about pretending you’re over your ex, while secretly still being devastated. Lyrically narrating about the strife between head and heart, this song is a fusion of 80s synth-pop and neon soul. Recorded with a live band, it’s the nostalgic synths, punchy rhythm and crisp guitars that fill the melody with retro charm. And with his vintage-dipped vocals, this tune is a bittersweet anthem.
