In The Spotlight

Lucy Robinson – “Let Down”

Originally from County Down and now based in Leeds, this Irish singer and songwriter grew up in a house filled with music. Listening to and playing SingStar as a kid led to her picking up the guitar as a teenager. She moved to Leeds in the UK to study performance and production at Leeds Beckett University. She’s played various festivals like the Output Festival and venues such as The Domino Club. Inspired by Jimi Hendrix, HAIM and Stevie Nicks, she debuted as Nicha with “Devices” in 2020.

Singing about allowing yourself to take a step back from the relentless pressures of modern life, her new single reminds us that as social guilt leads to anxiety we need to slow down. Fusing pop, funk and soul into an affable and joyous melody, the song radiates a cheery, infectious warmth. Rooted by a funky bassline, it’s the vintage Hammond organ and bouncy rhythm that completes the full-bodied tune. And with her lush vocals, this groove invites us to take a break from our hectic lives.
