Formed in Miami in 2010 by Mickey de Grand IV and Myra Stone, this eclectic band further consists of Al Battle, Alex Nuñez, Antoine Rocky-Horror and Oscar Guardado. Fusing the music De Grand grew up with, they blended yacht-rock, boogie-funk and synth-jazz. They’ve played festivals like the III Points Festival and venues such as The Lodge Room and The Crescent Ballroom. Inspired by Earth, Wind & Fire, Steely Dan and Gloria Estefan, they released their debut “I Come For Your Love” in 2011.
With lyrics tackling dark topics like the dangers of street life, addiction and paranoia, their new single tells a noir tale of anxiety and survival. Using sunshine as a metaphor for an addictive substance, they forge a surreal atmosphere. Sounding like a dusty vinyl from the early 80s, the funkalicious vibe comes from a slapping bass, scratchy funk guitar and a fluid analog synth. And with distorted vocals through a vocoder, this retro groove feels right at home in a neon-lit 80s underground club.
