This 5-piece Australian band from Melbourne have combined modern pop/rock with the slightly psychadelic sound of the late 60s/early 70s. Influenced by The Beach Boys as well as Tame Impala, they catch every aspect of the musical soundscape in one unique style. It’s mellow, yet upbeat. Contemporary, yet 60s retro. They will tour around Melbourne in the next few months.

Their latest single immediately starts with a mellow, groovy guitar riff, which will guide the listener through the song. Full of catchy hooks, a laid-back vibe and a highly contagious chorus, it shows off their distinct lo-fi psych-pop goodness to the full. With smooth, creamy vocals completing this auditory journey into time, it’s a flower-powerful tune full of peace, love and joy.

Air Stranger – “Dangerous Game”

By merging rock with funk and soul, this Canadian four-piece band from Vancouver constructed their own fresh, modern take on their eclectic influences, which include Muse and James Brown. Band members Guy Wilkins (vocals), Sebastian Chamney (guitar), Colin Sankey (bass) and Eric Sankey (percussion) added a dedicated horn section, in order to generate that pure funkilicious edge.

Their new single draws you in straight away with a buoyant bass line and leads you to a myriad of powerful, lively horns. It’s a clever arrangement in which pop, rock, funk and soul marry effortlessly into one delectable groove. With expertly textured instrumentation and vibrant vocals, it’s an exciting and lush ear-worm which is both rambunctious and highly catchy.

Heir – “Need You The Most”

Hailing from Leeds, UK, this indie-pop quintet has had a pretty busy year so far. Tom Hammond, Sam Luca, Harry Vernon, Ste Fisher and Samuel Newham completed an European tour following the release of their debut EP in 2016 and performed at the Reading and Leeds Festival. With a fusion of dynamic harmonies, captivating rhythms and creative lyricism, they created a sound which is diverse and irresistible.

They were definitely inspired by the pop music of the 80s on their latest release. With smooth synths, funky bass line, invigorating electric guitar bridge and polished vocals, they created a sparkling retro soundscape. As a song about that moment you catch someone’s eye and you know you’re both thinking the same thing, you’ll definitely fall in love with this musical delight.

White Raspberry – “High Class Luvr”

Having studied flamenco guitar and having played in classic rock cover bands, nothing could have prepared this one-man funk machine for the life-changing moment he bought a Moog Rogue synthesizer and was bewitched by its distinct sound. Being a multi-instrumentalist, he played every note on his self-titled debut EP himself and uses real instruments from the 80s to get the most genuine 80s electro-funk sound.

Inspired by the Minneapolis sound, pioneered by Prince in the late 70s, his latest single transports you back to the decade of Rubik’s Cubes and neon colored legwarmers with a powerful combo of funk and rock. A ferocious beat drives this high-energy powerhouse. With the addition of sharp disco bells, jangling rock guitars and sleek harmonies, it’s the best of the 80s in one great jam!

Patawawa – “What You Want”

This nu-disco trio from Matlock, UK describe their style as “deep-soul-avant-garde-indie-underground-baritone-discofunk” and named themselves after a self-invented name for a breed of dog. Consisting of Rory Lovatt, Sam Wilmot and Beth Garrett, the trio created their sound by combining 60s, 70s and 80s disco, funk and soul and sprinkle it with modern electronic vibes.

The brightly colored neon disco groove certainly glitters on their latest single. It’s an addictive pop/disco blend, which radiates unadulterated fun. Snappy singing strings, ear-catching funky beats, a dazzling 80s-inspired synth bridge and Sam & Beth‘s lustrous harmonies, take the listener on a fun-packed journey from 70s disco/funk to retro 80s electronic yumminess.
