Hailing from Prince Edward Island, this Canadian singer-songwriter was born into a very musical household. His father Mike Pendergast is a musician and storyteller and that talent goes back through the various generations. He learned to play entirely by ear from an early age. He’s played festivals like Summerfolk and Celtic Colours, and venues such as Trailside Music Hall and The Water Rats. Inspired by Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine and Stan Rogers, he released his debut “Gaspésie” in 2020.
Referencing the jack pine tree, which is known to survive in poor soil and harsh climates, his new single is about resilience, strength and the ability to weather any emotional storm without breaking. Taken from his upcoming, same-titled album, expected on October 23rd, his warm lyrics are enveloped by a welcoming folk-rock melody. Recorded live, it’s the upbeat percussion, the lively traditional fiddle and his honest, familiar vocals that give this slick, authentic tune a breezy autumn feel.
