Joy Oladokun – “Blame”

Hailing from a small town in Arizona, this ardent singer and songwriter started playing guitar aged 10. Drawing inspiration from artists like Tracy Chapman and Lauryn Hill, she fused folk, R&B and pop and began writing songs with no intention of pursuing music as a career. After a friend encouraged her to follow her muse, she moved to Los Angeles and in 2015 released her debut EP “Cathedrals”.

Reaching deep into her cornucopian bag of classic soul, her new single is overflowing with impassioned warmth. Opening with a tranquil acoustic guitar and a mild beat, she highlights her sultry, slightly smoky vocals, before the infectious handclaps, gospel-like backing singers and vintage keys come alive in the spirited chorus. Blending laid-back vibes with upbeat zest, it is full of true soul flair.
