James Alphonse – “What Are We Doing Here”

While in his final year of High School in Ontario, this Canadian singer and songwriter received a devastating diagnosis that he thought would end his career. However, he did return to music and toured with different bands. Initially focused on rock, folk and jazz, he took inspiration from The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes and found his sound in pop/R&B. He debuted with “I’ll be Your Wall” in 2017.

Returning after a three year hiatus with an absolutely sparkling pop banger, his new single combines retro melodic elements with a bubbly modern production. With shimmering 80s synths, 90s electric guitars and joyous fingersnaps laying down a high-spirited groove, it’s his refreshingly perky vocals that put a bounce in your step. Romantically empowering, this is a jaunty, sunlit pop jam.
