In The Spotlight

Justin Maki – “Close To You”

Born in Japan and now based in Canada since the age of 11, this prolific artist has been performing for over 16 years. After moving to Canada, he attended a rock school called Studio Arts. Since he’s played over 1000 shows and opened for The Sheepdogs and Neon Dreams. Fusing R&B, soul, funk and jazz, dunked in a tasty pop dip, he takes inspiration from John Mayer, Bruno Mars and Robin Thicke.

Revealing his funky intentions from the very first Prince-inspired guitar riff, his new single is a refined and playful funk/pop concoction. With groovy electric guitars, a bustling beat and sprightly synths laying the funkalicious foundation, it’s his energetic vocals singing about a past lover, that add a salubrious quality to this delicious cocktail of funk, sparkling pop and good ol’ fashioned fun.
