In The Spotlight

Mychelle – “Tightrope”

Hailing from Hackney, this British singer-songwriter first picked up a guitar aged 10 and started writing songs. Soon after she stopped again, returning to music at 17. She began busking on the streets of London, where she was noticed by Idris Elba, who included her on his Yardie Mixtape. Inspired by Corinne Bailey-Rae, Tracy Chapman and Amy Winehouse, she debuted with “The Way” in 2021.

Singing about having a person who’s doing the most for your attention, despite that not being what is needed, her new single embraces that sweet classic soul sound with R&B and a touch of modernity. With silky smooth vibes from a laidback bass, mellow rhythm and mild keys enriching every note, it’s the sumptuous harmonies and her enchanting voice that make this jam a plush earworm.
