SYML – “Wildfire”

Born as Brian Fennell in Issaquah, Washington, this singer and songwriter wrote his first song aged 18 after the death of a schoolmate and earned a degree in music from Whitworth University. He was a member of the indie-rock band Barcelona, which released three full-length albums since 2007. Now performing solo under the moniker SYML, he released his debut EP “Hurt For Me” in 2016.

Written during the 2018 American forest fires, his new single is showing a vulnerable honesty that really hits home. The third taster of his upcoming debut album, which is due to drop on May 3rd, smooths the edges between the acoustic piano, airy beats and sweltry synths and allows the melancholy in his emotive voice to sound mesmerizing, while he reaches in and touches your heart.

Samuel Jack – “Perfect”

Influenced by his nomadic childhood, in which he moved from London to Johannesburg and The Netherlands, this British singer and songwriter was brought up on blues, Motown, soul and roots music. Now creating his own style of contemporary soul in a caravan in Somerset, he debuted with his EP “Let It All Out” in 2016. Championed by BBC Radio 2, he’s gearing up for his new European tour.

The blend of the acoustic piano and organic rhythm with electronic elements gives his latest single a classic feel wrapped in a modern coating. Driven by a powerhouse performance of his vigorous, soul-infused voice, singing about misplaced judgment and underlining the fact that nobody’s perfect, this infectious and imposing tune is a vivid, anthemic piece of impassioned nu-soul perfection.
