In The Spotlight

KiNG MALA – “She Calls Me Daddy”

Born as Areli Castro in El Paso TX, this Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter blends her classic soul influences like Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin with Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks rock and Blondie and Halsey pop to create her unique sound. She came to Los Angeles to go to music school and found herself immersed in the local creative scene. She debuted with her single “Hurricane” in 2019.

Intoxicating from the very first bass plucks, her new single adds a soulful touch to delicious R&B. Highlighting the misconception of men when dealing with a bi-sexual woman that they can easily steal her girl, both the lyrics as the melody are oozing with attitude. With a driving beat and stabs of horns woven through every confident word, this spirited jam is rich, empowering and full of sass.
