Started in 2017 by multi-instrumentalist and producer Trent Prall, he named this project after the Hawaiian word for ocean waves. Drawing from his Japanese-Hawaiian heritage, he created an unique sonic brew of psychedelic funk with flourishes of disco, Motown and indie-rock. Inspired by the likes of Tame Impala, Radiohead and Hiatus Kaiyote, he released his debut EP “Bloom Lagoon” in 2017.
Chronicling the final moments of a failing relationship and the realization that you’re just holding on to the past rather than the present, his new single envelops the emotive lyrics with a mix of a breezy West-Coast mood and 70s rock. Taken from his album “Ginseng Hourglass”, it’s the ethereal, easygoing vibe, retro rock guitar solo and airy vocals that gives this rich tune a carefree bounce.
