In The Spotlight

Kay Young – “The Way You Look At Me”

Based in London, this eclectic British singer, rapper and producer was born to a touring musician dad and a backing singer mum. She started singing in a church choir and taught herself how to play drums. Counting Jay Electronica and Jay Z to her fan base, she effortlessly fuses hiphop and soul. Inspired by Kendrick Lamar, Missy Elliott and Janis Joplin, she debuted with “Sweet Dreams” in 2020.

Sonically traveling back in time to the swinging 60s, her new single is sizzling with classic soul. From the funky bass and the bouncy beat to the cheeky tambourine and bracing brass, this retro groove sets the invigorating melody on fire. And with her crisp and powerful vocals, both singing and rapping over the notes, this stirring blend of soul, hiphop and jazz will make you feel fantastic.
