In The Spotlight

Eliza Shaddad – “Heaven”

Born as the daughter of a Sudanese astrophysicist and a Scottish diplomat, this diverse singer and songwriter was raised across seven countries. As well as being a multi-linguist with a philosophy degree, she studied Jazz at London’s Guildhall. Initially honing her skills as a busker in London and inspired by music from Radiohead’s rock to Nick Harper’s folk, she debuted with her 2014 EP “Waters”.

Delivering a gripping melody from the start, her new single breathes nostalgic vibes, while keeping her feet in the here and now. With a harmony of guitars forging a late-90s feel and some understated folky touches woven through, this tune is utterly earpleasing. And with cheery harmonica into the mix and her arousing vocals relaying the need for positivity, this is a stirring and uplifting gem.
