In The Spotlight

Yazmin Lacey – “Bad Company”

Raised in a musical family in East London, this singer and songwriter initially didn’t feel inclined to show off her impressive singing voice. She did however write songs in her bedroom. It wasn’t until after moving to Nottingham that she began playing acoustic shows and formed a backing band. Inspired by Lianne La Havas, Erykah Badu and Jordan Rakei, she debuted with “Black Moon” in 2017.

Conjuring up images of smoky basement jazz clubs, her new single tells the emotive story about the bond she feels between herself and her inner demon she calls Priscilla. Taken from her upcoming album “Voice Notes”, expected on March 3rd, it’s the easygoing rhythm and mellow organ that creates a jazzy mood. And with her hypnotic vocals, this smooth jam emits a tender warmth.
