Formed in 2019 by singer Josh Lane, drummer Alex Garcia and bassist Sal Samano, this San Diego-based trio began uploading some 30-second demos to Instagram, which found their way to Daptone Records head Gabe Roth. They developed an intricate blend of suave 60s soul and groovy 70s R&B. Inspired by Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Al Green, they debuted with “Can I Call You Rose” in 2020.
Imaging yourself in the midst of the swinging 60s for little over 3 minutes, their new single is dripping with vintage soulfulness. Lyrically highlighting the importance of remaining true in a relationship and the devastation when it’s taken for granted, the track unfolds with balmy bass plucks, riveting rhythm and lively horns. And with sugary-sweet vocals tickling your ears, this tune is a soulful gem.
