In The Spotlight

Ivy Levan – “Her”

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this multi-talented artist moved to Los Angeles aged 16 to chase her musical dreams. She’s not just a gifted singer and songwriter, but also a model and actress, who made her acting debut in the 2010 film “Drop Dead Gorgeous”. Her musical debut followed in 2013 with the EP “Introducing The Dame”. She went on to support Emili Sandé and Fitz & The Tantrums on their tours.

Her latest single – the first release since her 2015 album “No Good” – bounces around on an imposing pounding beat. With slightly retro-dripping keys sprinkling a playful smidge of nostalgia over this commanding contemporary pop tune, it’s her towering, audacious vocals with a cheeky sizzle, chronicling the end of a relationship, that makes it a modern slice of invigorating powerhouse pop.

Marlene Oak – “Slip Away”

Growing up on a small island just outside Stockholm, this Swedish singer and songwriter escaped into her own musical world. She got discovered by accident while busking in the nation’s capital and since then she’s taken her raw, enchanting folk-rock stylings on the live circuit, playing festivals such as STHLMAmericana and Way Out West. She released her debut single “How Long” in 2016.

It’s been two years since her last release, but her new enchanting single was definitely worth the wait. Feeling influenced by legends like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Janis Joplin, she’s stirred some 60s spice through her folk-rock sound. The live recorded instrumentation gives the tune a beguiling, authentic feel, while the retro-grit of her Stevie Nicks-touched vocals deliver a bit of a timeless kick.
