Basia Bulat – “Your Girl”

Born in Toronto, this Canadian singer and songwriter grew up listening to her mother’s piano students as well as legendary soul from Sam Cooke and Stax on the radio. She’s a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, autoharp, piano, ukulele, bass and charango. Combining her early musical influences with a love of folk, country and R&B, she released her debut album “Oh, My Darling” in 2007.

Written in a snowstorm in Montreal and recorded in the desert heat of Joshua Tree in California, her new single also explores the edges of extremes musically. Despite singing with her Stevie Nicks-touched vocals about letting go of someone you lost, it’s  foot-tappin’ invigorating and upbeat. Taken from her upcoming album “Are You In Love?”, expected on March 27, this is a tasty aural contradiction.
