In The Spotlight

Yuna – “Stay Where You Are”

Born in Malaysia as Yunalis binti Mat Zara’ai and now Los Angeles-based, this award-winning singer, songwriter and fashion designer started writing songs aged 14. She began performing while attending law school. With an alluring sound influenced by Aaliyah, Alanis Morrisette and Lauryn Hill, she initially gained viral success by uploading to Myspace. She released her self-titled debut EP in 2008.

By keeping the instruments understated and shining the light on her enthralling voice, her mesmerizing new single is an auditory treasure. While a mellow, melodious piano and a minimal percussion build the foundation, she uses her hypnotic vocal skills to narrate a story about self-reflection. With a touch of R&B and a whole lot of soul, this spellbinding smooth groove is full of stylish elegance.
