In The Spotlight

Jessica Wilde – “Cry For Me”

This sassy singer and songwriter grew up in the Brixton area of London, immersed in her mother’s obsession with jazz and soul, which she soaked in contemporary hip-hop flavors to forge a fiery fusion. With determination to pursue a career in music, she flew to Los Angeles, where she recorded her upcoming debut EP in Ne-Yo’s studio and worked with chart-toppers Rudimental and Emeli Sandé.

Combining a hip-hop beat and R&B vocals with a slew of stylish, vintage-dipped soul to create an elegant, yet electrifying new sound is not an easy task, but she makes it sound effortless on her debut single. With some cheeky piano, frisky percussion, slick choral harmonies and her sprightly, soulful and charismatic voice, this is a perfectly measured mix of retro soul spice and modern R&B zest.
